Yes, I'm sure there were other, perfectly valid reasons he was fired and the timing just HAPPENED to coincide with some asshole tweeting "Come get your boy" at the organization's account. Makes a lot of sense.

It may also be that what they really mean is "he wasn't fired for tweeting the study, he was fired for directing harassment at a black woman on Twitter" (i.e. having the temerity to argue with her when she "called out" his supposed racism).
